Study abroad

Germany: study abroad

Public universities charge almost no tuition — only a few hundred euros per semester. The trade-off is the German language requirement and a mandatory blocked account before the visa.

Entry

Entry requirements

These are the common thresholds for most programmes. Individual universities and departments may ask for more — the authoritative list is on the admissions page of the institution you are targeting.

  • Academic record

High school completion plus one year of university in Vietnam, or a year at a Studienkolleg to qualify for year one.

  • Language

German-taught programmes require B2, and some fields ask for C1. English-taught programmes require IELTS 6.5.

  • Blocked account

Open a Sperrkonto holding one year of living costs at the level published by the government, released to you monthly after arrival.

  • Health insurance

German health cover is mandatory before enrolment; students under thirty qualify for public cover at a reduced rate.

Language preparation

Language roadmap

Accepted thresholds

  • IELTS 6.5 · Cho chương trình dạy bằng tiếng Anh. Chương trình dạy bằng tiếng Đức yêu cầu B2 tiếng Đức, một số ngành C1 — trung tâm không đào tạo tiếng Đức.

This is the only one of the seven destinations where English is not the main door. Wobridge teaches German to CEFR B2; English-taught programmes follow the same IELTS roadmap as elsewhere.

  1. A1–A2

Pronunciation, the alphabet, basic sentence structure and everyday vocabulary. Enough for routine day-to-day exchanges.

  2. B1

The case and tense systems, reading longer texts, writing letters and stating opinions. Many foundation programmes admit at this level.

  3. B2

Academic language, following lectures and joining discussions. The standard threshold for German-taught degrees.

Process

Application steps

  1. Choose your route

Decide between German-taught and English-taught programmes — the two routes diverge from the very first language class.

  2. Study and certify the language

Reach B2 in German, or IELTS 6.5 for an English-taught programme.

  3. Apply through uni-assist

Most universities process international applications through uni-assist; documents must be translated and certified to German standards.

  4. Open a blocked account

Transfer a full year of living costs into a Sperrkonto at an accepted bank.

  5. Apply for the student visa

Book an embassy appointment and submit the offer, language certificate, Sperrkonto confirmation and health insurance.

Documents to prepare

  • German B2 certificate or IELTS 6.5
  • Offer letter or Studienkolleg confirmation
  • Blocked account confirmation

Services

Support packages

The centre handles the application work and the language preparation. Choosing the institution and the field of study stays with you.

The centre prepares and reviews applications, runs interview practice and teaches the language. Visa decisions rest with the immigration authority of the destination country and scholarship decisions rest with the awarding body — no one outside those two can guarantee an outcome.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • Is it really tuition-free?

Public universities in most states charge no tuition, including for international students; Baden-Württemberg is the exception. Students still pay a 150–350 euro semester fee, which includes a transport pass.

  • Can I study without German?

Yes, through English-taught programmes, which are concentrated at master's level. English-taught bachelor's options are far fewer, so most undergraduate applications go the German-language route.

  • What is a Studienkolleg?

A preparatory year for students whose school-leaving qualification is not equivalent to the German Abitur. It ends with the Feststellungsprüfung examination, which opens year one.

  • Do you guarantee the visa?

No. The German embassy decides. We teach the language to the required level and help you assemble a properly translated and certified file.
