Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship

About this scholarship

Manaaki is a New Zealand government award for citizens of partner countries, covering the full cost of a master degree at New Zealand universities.

Selection follows development priority areas and a commitment to contribute on return, so the return plan carries real weight rather than being a formality.

What it covers

What the fund pays for. Exact amounts can change each round — check against the announcement for the open round.

  • Full tuition
  • A weekly living allowance
  • An establishment allowance
  • Return airfare and health insurance
  • Academic support during study

Eligibility

Conditions published by the fund. Missing any one of these usually means rejection at the procedural stage, before the file reaches the selection panel.

  • Citizenship and residence

Citizens of a listed partner country, living there at the time of application.

  • Work experience

Usually at least two years, with evidence of role and impact.

  • Priority areas

The chosen field must sit within the development priorities published for Vietnam.

  • Return commitment

Recipients commit to working at home for at least two years after graduation.

How Wobridge Academy helps

The four steps below are what the centre does with you. The award decision rests with the fund panel — the centre cannot influence it, and does not promise on their behalf.

  1. Assess and plan

Take a placement test to measure the gap between your current level and the language threshold this award requires, then set a study plan around the months left before the deadline.

  2. Train to the threshold

Follow the plan with regular mock tests so progress stays measurable. This is the part the centre is responsible for.

  3. Review the file

Read through essays, reference letters and transcript conversions before submission, checked against the document list the fund publishes for the open round.

  4. Submit and track

Submit on time through the fund portal, then record the application number and response milestones. The award decision rests with the fund panel.

Frequently asked questions

  • How do I make the return plan convincing?

Keep it concrete and checkable: name a problem in your current work, the knowledge gap behind it, and what you would do differently after study. A generic plan is where this award loses the most points.

  • Can I apply before reaching the language threshold?

No. The certificate must be valid at the time of submission, and most funds reject incomplete files. Test early so there are enough months left to train.

  • Does the centre handle the whole application?

The centre teaches the language and reviews the file before submission. Essays and reference letters must still be your own — panels recognise ghost-written work quickly.
